A STUDY IN HERITAGE In the waning light of September, I found myself traversing the grounds of Estate ‘Het Weldam’ in Markelo. It was a day for wandering—celebrating the slow arrival of autumn with my faithful Weasel by my side. Clad in a weathered wax jacket and flat cap, I felt less like a visitor and more a part of the landscape itself.
The Castle Fair was a tapestry of tradition: the scent of homemade preserves, the earthy dampness of rare plants, and the silent stories told by gathered antiques. To stroll through these grounds with a camera in hand is to seek the soul of the estate; capturing the tactile grain of handcrafted treasures and the quiet dignity of a weekend well-spent.
THE SHIFTING SPECTRUM This was a day for the observer. There was no haste, only the desire to unwind and tinker with the frame. As I moved through the atmosphere of the fair, I found myself captivated by the dialogue between the seasons.
It was only later, within the quiet of the edit, that the true narrative revealed itself. I hadn’t set out to find a specific mood, yet the transition of the light—the deepening of the shadows and the cooling of the palette—spoke of a season in flux. The images captured a subtle shift in the air; a cooling of the earth that only the lens seems to truly notice.
THE ARCHIVE OF A MOMENT These frames are the result of curiosity without an agenda. They are a celebration of the textures of the countryside: wool, wax, stone, and the golden, dusty light of a September afternoon. It serves as a reminder that beauty isn’t always something to be hunted; often, it is simply something to be witnessed.
